Eternal Retribution

As the title says, I’ve finished chapter 6.  I finished typing it up late Sunday night, and haven’t had a chance to get this update done until now.  Now, for the info you’re all waiting for:

Pages: 56

Word Count: 20110

It was a large chapter, comparatively.  It was also the one I had the most trouble with, despite its quick start.  Had some characterization issues crop up, which I will admit were rather disheartening.  But, I pushed the notebook to the side, got a scratchpad, and worked out the issues in a couple hours.  I was back to writing that same night, feeling confident again.

My one book per chapter rule seems to be helping me out quite a bit, now that I have a more of a chance to see the results.  I started working on chapter 7 last night, and it’s going well so far.  Despite the ‘forced’ aspect of the writing (since I don’t allow myself to read another book until at least a chapter is finished), it doesn’t feel like I have to force myself into it, which can really hamper the quality.  It’s almost like both the reading and the writing parts are each other’s rewards.  It feels good.

I’ve also been looking into some other options recently, and if I choose to go through with them, based on what I can tell, Eternal Retribution might be off the market for a month or two.  That’s all I’ll say about that for now; gotta give you some reason to come back, right?

As always, thanks for stopping by.  Any questions, comments, critiques, drop me a line.  Also don’t be afraid to post reviews.

Peace Out, Rock On.

Well, I’ve finally finished digitizing chapter 5, so as mentioned the other day, I’m back with an update.

Word Count: 16572

Pages: 46

I’ve also managed to get a good start with chapter 6, putting down 4 notebook pages yesterday.  It seems to be progressing much faster now that I’m in the swing of things. I hope to have this one knocked out by the weekend, and maybe even digitized also if things go well.  However, The Avengers comes out this weekend, and I hope to see that as well.

It seems the reading/writing sanction I placed on myself is off to a smooth and prosperous start.  When I finish up with chapter 6, next on my list to read is Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut.  I’ve wanted to read that one for a while now.

I’ve recently become a member of the World Literary Café website (www.worldliterarycafe.com)  They’ve got a nice array of resources over there for indie writers and self-publishing.  I joined my first “Tweet Team” today, which is a type of cross-promotion WLC runs, where groups of 10 authors post tweets on the page, and the authors re-tweet the other nine tweets from their Tweet Team to help spread the word about their book and generate a buzz.  I can’t accurately speak to the results yet, but perhaps later in the week I can have a better idea of the outcome.

Thanks for stopping by, and don’t be afraid to comment or drop me an email.  Also, please share using the handy links below!

I put the final words for chapter 5 to the page this morning.  However, I’ve not yet had the opportunity to digitize the chapter, so therefore I don’t yet have a new page or word count.  I hope to be able to get that remedied by the end of the week.

On a side note, to help keep me current with my own words, and keep me writing, I’ve decided to put a sort of sanction on myself.  Last week or so I finished burning through the currently available offerings of Michael Grant’s Gone series.  (It’s rather fantastic, and it sucks having to wait reportedly around a year for the next, and I believe final, entry in the series.)  I love reading as much as writing, but need to put a bit more focus on the latter.  So I’ve limited myself to one book read between chapters; I read a book, I can’t read another until I finish at least a chapter.  So far it seems to be working for me.  With how quickly I read, it should really be at most three days between work on chapters.

I’ll drop by again later in the week with another update on Homecoming’s statistics.  And possibly some info on Chapter 6.  I’m already halfway through Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep so it’ll be Wednesday at the latest that I start on that.

Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to comment and especially share the entry.

Peace Out, Rock On.

Hey all, just wanted to drop by and give a quick update (as noted ^).  My computer has been out of commission for a couple weeks, but it’s finally up and running again.  Got a new job that’s going well so far.  Also, making my way steadily through chapter 5.  Had a nice ‘aha’ moment last night while writing, though that was slightly tempered by the ‘oh shit’ moment when I realized a good portion of chapter 5 was breaking continuity of things said in the previous four chapters.  Gotta make sure I re-familiarize myself with my own words if I’m going to come back to it after a break.  It’s all good now, a few changed words, a couple added sentences, and we’re back on track.  Hopefully the chapter will be finished by the end of the weekend.

As always thanks for stopping by.

Peace Out, Rock On.

This isn’t to say that I’m starting one, so much as that I’ve been on one.  I took a bit of a break from the book to do some freelance writing for an RPG company.  However, that’s finished up now, so I’m ready to get back into the book.  Not really too much of an update here; just wanted to get the word out there for what’s been going on.

I have been thinking about taking a more active spot on here as well…maybe dip into a bit more of my goings on than just book stuff.  Haven’t quite decided yet.  If you’ve got any thoughts on it, feel free to share them in the comments.

As always, thanks for stopping by.

If you’re looking here, you may have noticed I’ve been rather active lately through facebook and twitter updates trying to generate some page views, and subsequently, book purchases.  Well, the page views have gone up.  As for purchases, I can’t quite be sure.  The publishing site takes a month or so for purchases to show up, according to what their sales tracking page tells me.  Some of the numbers seem a bit off, so I’m not sure if that’s entirely accurate.

Anyway, aside from that, I’ve been working on the sequel a bit more.  Haven’t digitized any of the new stuff yet, so I don’t know the current word count.  I will finish the book in 2012.  Can’t quite predict or set a publication date yet.  Haven’t come close to recouping the cost for the last one.  I’m hoping if I can generate enough interest and sales, perhaps find someone who knows someone, I can get the next one published without going the self-publishing route.  Time will tell, as will help from people visiting the page and purchasing a copy.

Can’t think of what to use some of those gift cards on?  Why not my book?  Go for it.  What do you have to lose?

Peace out, Rock on.

So, good news first.  Eternal Retribution is now available in e-book format!  I’m hoping this brings things a bit more to life with the book.  So far, none have been picked up, but I’m thinking that it’s not widely known yet.  I’ll be working on remedying that soon.

Negative: Had a bit of a falling-out with the publishers.  Had some things that should’ve been taken care of that weren’t.  Now, it’s sorta halfway there.  With the e-book release, they took care of what should’ve been taken care of, but it seems to only have applied to the e-book version, not the already released paperback and hardcover versions.  I’ll have to get in touch with them again, it seems.

Anyway, if you haven’t yet, take a look at my book, now available in 3 formats!  Thanks for stopping by!

Peace Out, Rock On

Well, about now, the L.A. Time Book Festival should be going on.  I’m hoping there may be some good things coming from my inclusion in the festival.  While I couldn’t make it there personally, Eternal Retribution is there and I’m hoping it gets into the hands of someone who would be willing to help me get to the next level with the book.  By that I mean mass saturation versus the current print-on-demand.  I’ve heard from some ‘industry’ people I know that p-o-d might be on the horizon, but with a relative no-namer like myself, that doesn’t really help.  It would be great to be picked up by one of the larger publishing houses, get some weight behind my name, be able to write for a living.  That’s what I’m hoping comes out of this book fair.

On a side note, sometime soon, Eternal Retribution will be converted into e-book format.  Hopefully this will also be a step in the right direction for getting out there.  Here’s hoping it works.  And if anyone happens to attend the book fair, drop me an email and let me know how it went!

Peace Out, Rock On!

So, I’ve got some updates.  First, my book is going to be featured during the L.A. Times Book Festival this year.  Yay!  Hopefully that will get it a bit more publicity.  Also, the www.eternalretributionbook.com website provided by my publishers will be taken down on the 22nd of this month.  This site, however, will stay alive, and if you haven’t already noticed, I’ve already adjusted this site to cover one of the major uses of that site, and expanded it.  It’s the new Purchase page.

I would also very much appreciate it if any of my fans (or even haters, I suppose) who have read my book would post reviews.  It’ll really help me with the visibility of the book, and the reviews can easily be added to the pages linked on the Purchase page.

The facebook group page is up to 80 fans.  Thought I’d share…

Sorry, but no updates on Homecoming or David’s journal this time.  Thanks for stopping by!

Peace Out, Rock On

*Obligatory self-incriminating timeliness introduction.*

So, I decided the other day that I really needed to get back to writing.  It’s been a while since I’ve done anything with the sequel, so I told myself, “On Wednesday, I’m going to at the very least take everything I’ve already written and digitize it.”  And that’s what I did.  Though I didn’t realize just how much I’d already had, and it took me into Thursday before I finished.  Wanna know how much was already done?  I thought you would.

28 pages.  10,076 words.  Crazy, I know.

With that information at my fingertips, I feel confident that this one will be longer than the last, and as you know from a previous post on here, that’s the main issue I had with it.  What I’m hoping for now is that since it’s all once again fresh in my mind, and sitting here in front of my face, that I’ll make sure I work on it much more than I have been.

I know I kept mentioning a nice little surprise I wanted to include here on the site.  I know that I haven’t done it yet.  I don’t know whether or not I’ve mentioned what it was supposed to be, so I guess I can do that now.  I wanted to add David’s journal.  A nice little insight into his years at The Institute.  I’ve got nothing written up so far, and I’m not sure when I’ll get to it, honestly.  It’s taken me how long to get back to the book?

Have yet to set up the B&N book signing, but I did figure out the process.  I’ve been holding off on that while waiting to here about a job that may require me to move across the country.  Would hate to schedule the signing and have to cancel.  I guess we’ll see how it goes.

Well, it’s getting pretty late, and I’m getting pretty tired.  Gotta get some sleep to make sure I’m awake for Red Lobster tomorrow.  Mmmmmm.

Peace Out, Rock On.
